Off in the highlands of kabale, on the shores of lake bunyoni, south western Uganda is the kansiime Backpackers. A place you can get away and be one with nature.
The pleasure of visiting the place was worth, and it was an absolute gem! From the moment I arrived, I was struck by the serene ambiance and breathtaking views of the lake. The room service was top-notch, with friendly and attentive staff who went above and beyond to ensure my stay was comfortable.
But what truly stood out was the peace of mind I experienced during my stay. The resort's tranquil atmosphere and stunning natural surroundings made it the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. I felt rejuvenated and refreshed, and my mind was at ease.
And then, of course, there was the food! Oh, the food! The resort's culinary team truly outdid themselves, serving up delicious dishes that showcased the best of local flavors. But the standout star was, without a doubt, the crayfish. I've never tasted fish so tender and chewingumish texture, flavorful, and expertly prepared. It was truly the tastiest fish I've ever had the pleasure of eating!
Overall, my stay at this resort on Lake Bunyonyi was an unforgettable experience. With its stunning views, exceptional service, and mouthwatering cuisine, I would highly recommend it to anyone seeking a peaceful and indulgent getaway.
Unfortunately, we did not enjoy our experience at Kansiime. We were the only guests there, yet it took over 3 hours to get our food, our empty bottles and ash tray were not cleared up for a day, and we found the service to be generally slow and unfriendly. Additionally, we were asked to pay in cash for our dinner, which we found to be slightly strange as the rooms were paid on card. We were made breakfast very early one morning, as we were going to see the gorillas, which we were thankful for, but we were surprised to not even be asked about our excursion when we returned later that day. Ultimately, the experience led to us cancelling our second night at the hostel.
I don’t recommend this place. They have a very loud generator that they put in the middle of the night or early in the morning because they don’t store enough solar energy during the day. Completely ruins the peaceful lake vibe, even for the guests staying next door. Look for other options (and far from it if you don’t want a constant engine noise in the background of your holidays).
I had a wonderful time at Kansiime Backpackers. I loved the plants all over the property, the colourful murals, the friendly service from Charity and Rachel. While there, I took a hike with Mathias the tour guide. He was very helpful and while we were hiking, I saw the lake at different heights, every view more spectacular than the last! Also did a boat ride around the islands...great views! It was a memorable experience! I would do it again and again and again!!
Not the correct location as is actually over the bay from The Birdsnest Hotel. Beautiful spot where you aren't isolated and can still see people in their boats etc. village above is very interesting to walk through - use the guide to support the local people. Only negative is food took quite a long time even through only two of us were staying there. There are dorm rooms FYI.
