I read a lot of good reviews here on Google map and it spurred me to visit The Wine Lab. But the experience was different.
Firstly, the good:
1. The manager I spoke to over the phone was friendly and helpful in making a reservation.
2. Josh the sommelier was friendly too, helpful, patient, and knew his stuff about wine.
3. The wine was pretty good too.
THEN, THE HORRIBLE:
The waitress, Precious was the embodiment of Uncle Ruckus – racist, rude, and favoured white people more.
She kept hastening my friends in making a wine choice, complained about their sitting position, and spoke rudely at some point. While, she was the exact opposite to the white customers present– sweet, patient, helpful, almost clingy.
It was so crazy seeing her switch from racist to sweet in a minute.
It got so bad that when my friends wanted to use the restroom, she directed them to a toilet far from the bar. While, she directed the white customers to use the restroom in the bar.
But that was not all.
At some point, she would whisper something about my friends and I to the 2 male waiters at the bar while looking at us and they would all laugh about it.
They were so shameless that when the white customers stood up to leave, Precious and the 2 other waiters rushed after them leaving us alone in the bar and carried their bags hoping to get a tip.
It's always weird to see fellow Nigerians being racist against ourselves and offering preferential treatment to foreigners even though we are both paying you money.
Great private members club for those that love wine. Food is also quite good. Note that this is however an extremely expensive place. Definitely a great hangout for the wealthy.
The ambience is okay. Classy vibes. Awesome customer service. The waiters were friendly and had an understanding of the menu. It was obvious they enjoy their job and love what they do
Menu- The Menu is quite detailed and different from the usual menus and it is changed every two weeks so they don’t have much on their menu
Food- Ordered Starters and Main. Starters was good and the dressing is nice however the Sea food pasta was not what I expected
Wine- Like the name implies, nice and good wine
I particularly love the ambience, both Indoor and outdoor.
It's a cool place for a private lunch/dinner and a group get together.
I had a beef salad starter and it was amazing! I loved the sea food pasta top but the seafood in it was scanty.
The menu needs to be revamped for choices.
I had issues choosing my drink, as the wines that I preferred (moderately priced between 15k-20k) but the waiter saved the day.
I loved the service and I would visit again.
Was there for the special menu with wine pairing and was served by Abimbola(Mercy).
It was my first time, and it was memorable. Every course was a hit!
