!Xaus Lodge offers Kalahari accommodation as a game lodge situated in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park for eco-tourists and visitors.
The complex comprises a central lodge building and 12 individual chalets, each with its own deck overlooking a vast saltpan and waterhole fed with fresh water. One family unit (sleeps 4 people).
This Kalahari game lodge offers a unique living space. The central lodge building consists of a welcoming reception area with its unique wall-hanging made by the ladies of Vezokhule, a sewing co-operative in Upington. The cosy lounge has a fireplace and a library of selected books for paging through before dinner. Our dining area overlooks the pan, with furniture hand-made in Upington and images burnt by Bushmen artists.
The ‡Khomani San (Bushman) and Mier communities are the owners of !Xaus Lodge and all its furnishings. In addition, the Community representative organisations receive a monthly rental from the operation of the lodge based on its turnover. Almost all the lodge employees are drawn from the local communities where unemployment is rife.

2 months agoMeet at the pickup point then start the self drive journey west across dune after dune arriving at iXaus overlooking an ancient pan. This dune experience, washed duneveld, has to be the best Kgalagadi experience possible and should not be missed. Guides so knowledgeable and friendly. Great community lodge.

a year agoWhat an amazing experience to stay in this local community owned hotel. The food is local and delicious, the guides are so knowledgeable and made sure we had the best experience possible. We enjoyed the most beautiful sunset in the desert, were able to watch the stars and the milky way, and slept to the sound of a lion nearby. Highly recommend!

3 years agoBeautiful remote lodge, out of the world, where you can hear the sound of silence in the darkness of the night. Anthony and Suzy have been extremely helpful when we had a car issue, thank you so much for your help ! Hendrick and Kali were great guides, sharing their knowledge about animals, their spurs, plants and everything we wanted to know. The food was very nice, meals always a happy moment shared with people we didn’t know before, all linked by love of nature. Not to forget the leopard seen on our last evening and on our departure!! !Xaus will remain a great memory for us!!

13 years agoI recently visited !Xaus Lodge and can't wait to go back! The location of the lodge and the view that this location provide is stunning! On one of our morning walks in the bush our San Bushman guide picked up fresh lion tracks and we then followed the tracks for some time. While we were tracking the lions we were constantly being fed interesting and fascinating information about the plants, animals and insect life in the area. We then headed back to the lodge for the game vehicles and soon caught up with the lion. Was such an amazing experience! On our drive in to the lodge (over 91 sand dunes) we came across a female cheetah and her cubs. On a night game drive we were lucky enough to see a rare brown hyena stealing ostrich eggs from a nest. The animal life around the lodge is enough to keep you interested. The extra information that the guides provide about how the bushmen survived in this semi dessert landscape and how the animals now survive was really a great bonus. The food was great and the rooms well well stocked, clean and comfortable. The surrounding scenery, with the rolling red dudes, yellow grass and deep blue sky, must be one of the best backdrops for any photographer. I could not put my camera down!

4 years agoWhat a very special place. Set on the dunes overlooking the pan - an endless view. The management (Ant and Suzi Manley) and staff are professional, attentive and welcoming - they made our stay even more memorable. Highlights were the sunset drive, with drinks served on the dune at sunset, and the dune walk with the very knowledgeable Khomani San guides who taught us to "read the Kalahari newspaper" - footprints in the sand. Our 2 night stay was too short - a memory to be treasured.
