Curiocity Joburg has a history closely linked to the country’s own. It was the premises of the Pacific Press during the apartheid era, which published material for the ANC and Black Sash and is said to have offered refuge to struggle stalwarts like Mandela and Slovo. In the heart of the vibey Maboneng precinct, it’s now the perfect base for exploring the culture, history and creativity of the city.
Curiocity is a network of African design hostels, sharing an authentic experience of this continent, one city at a time. a week agoWe were actually sleeping in the penthouses down the street, really amazing places with amazing service and great views. Luckily we got provided with earplugs, because there was quite some partying in the street, as it was weekend. We hung out mostly in Curiocity, it has such a nice vibe and the crew is just fantastic. Loved the little balcony. Will be back here!

2 months agoThe hostel has a cool atmosphere and a very receptive and lively staff, the price is attractive, but leaves something to be desired in several areas. The region is not a good place to stay, it is very dangerous and you cannot walk the streets freely. You are literally staying inside the club! It's the party street in Johannesburg and you have to know that it will be difficult to sleep and rest. The hostel itself holds its parties with music and bands at very high volumes. Can't sleep. You need to go to the party. There is a frequent lack of energy and consequently water. We needed to shower in another place the two nights we stayed there. It was terrible. They say it's due to Load Shedding, but that's not all, as there are other places where there is no shortage of water. Bathrooms are not very clean. If you want to meet people, make friends and always be at the party, ok, but if you want minimal comfort, a clean bathroom with water, a place to rest and safety, this is not your place.

2 weeks agoI went on the walking tour of Maboneng with Kaizer and was truly amazed by the art, history, and culture that lives in every street and every building. Incredibly informative and enjoyable. I highly recommend for anyone wanting to learn more about the history of Johannesburg or just to immerse yourself in a new culture. Beautiful experience. Kaizer was an amazing guide with a wealth of knowledge.

4 months agoIt is very nice and cool place actually. If you like music, dance and want to learn about Johannesburg culture of arts it is the place. Communal kitchen is big, kitchenware is good. Bar is cool. There is little restaurant inside and cook is great and the food is tasty. The only thing I did not like is the loud music that keeps going on.
